Hi,
My name is Mark Tiger, creator of this blog, and of the "Smokers to Non-Smokers" program. Find out more about the program:
I was totally addicted to tobacco products, mainly cigarettes; and spent 20 years desperately trying to stop smoking without succeeding.
Finally in 1999, I used a method that I had created for myself; and I managed to become a non-smoker. I never smoked again.
In 2005, I decided to share the methods that I had used to successfully become a Non-Smoker, with Smokers who wanted to become Non-Smokers.
After helping over three hundred Smokers to become Non-Smokers, my success rate was a little over 99%. From this experience I have improved the program, to assist those who are already non-smokers; to remain non-smokers for the rest of their lives.
Smoking Facts – Part 2
Smoking in South Africa
· There are around 7 million smokers in South Africa.
· 80% of smokers have tried to give up a least once.
· 90% of smokers began smoking before the age of 18.
· 20% of smokers began before the age of 10.
· Giving up old habits is not easy, smokers often lack the sense of urgency. But what about the innocent, What about little babies? If a baby’s mother smokes, if a baby’s mother smokes at home, if a baby’s mother smokes in the car. By the time the baby turns 5 he/she will have inhaled the equivalent of 102 packets of cigarettes thanks to his mother's contribution alone. This passive smoking means the baby will be 3 times more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke. How do you feel about that?
· Addiction to smoking is not the habit so much as the Nicotine addiction. The habit can be broken in 21 days. Addiction does not follow logical laws. You may have noticed people who are addicted to substances, including Nicotine, do strange things; that go against what you would have normally expected them to do. Addiction is unpredictable, and needs to be addressed on the mind level. It is the mental addiction that needs to be addressed properly. The Physical Nicotine addiction is actually so mild, that it is almost unnoticeable and not always possible to “feel the addiction”.
· Smoking is generally associated with lung cancer but smoking is the single greatest cause of heart disease. By 2020, smoking will cause more deaths than HIV, TB, maternal mortality, car accidents, suicide and homicide combined. (World Health Organization)
· Smoking narrows your blood vessels and enlarges naturally occurring blood clots. By smoking you are basically causing a traffic jam to your heart. (Ever feel a pain in your chest?)
· Smoking almost triples the risk of heart disease. It narrows blood vessels and expands blood clots, causing the cardiovascular equivalent of a traffic jam on the highway to your heart and brain. Reduce blood flow to the heart and you risk a heart attack. Reduce it to the brain and you risk a stroke.
· "Low" nicotine cigarettes may cause smokers to inhale more deeply or to smoke more cigarettes to get the nicotine their bodies crave. You see it is the Nicotine, not the cigarettes that you are addicted to.
· If you are concerned with the damage that the smoke is doing to your lungs, then you may consider using Nicotine replacement products, until you can achieve the status of a “Non-Smoker”. I refer to electronic cigarettes, nicotine loaded chewing gums etc, when I refer to Nicotine replacement products.
